ps from psWelcome back from summer vacation!!  I hope and pray you took/enjoyed the rest/sabbath you needed/deserved.

(Wow, that’s a strange number of back slashes to start devo’s off with.)

Did you ever dish out ice cream over the summer to your kids while they were sitting next to one another?  What was their first reaction?  Too say Thank You of course….hopefully….but more likely, their first reaction was to look over at their sibling’s bowl and see how much they got?  Did they get more than me?  Did they have more toppings than I did?  More whipped cream?

And if they did have more, suddenly there was a severe shift that moved us from the joy of receiving a bowl of yummy ice cream to an attitude of scarcity and resentment.  And that’s a bummer of a change.

What if…instead of looking to see if someone got more than us…what if we looked over to make sure they got enough?  That would be an incredible change.

This weekend, we’re diving into Matthew 20:1-16 linked HERE.  Sometimes it is called the Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard, but maybe it should be called the Parable of the Generous Landowner.  I encourage you to take a read and you will find people a long time ago out in a vineyard holding their bowl of ice cream and checking out how many sprinkles the other guy got.

Been happening for a long time.  Still happening today.

I want to invite you in the next few days to take some self-awareness time and notice: are you looking around at the world to see if others have more/better/newer/fancier than you or are you looking around to if those you see have enough/fairness/justice/daily bread.  (There’s those crazy back slashes again).

There should be no judgment as you notice.  Just awareness.  Just mindfulness.  Just self-research.

Because the Generous Landowner is going to shower you, me and them with more grace than we will ever need.  Enough sprinkles/chocolate sauce/whipped cream to make our stomachs hurt and our hearts to overflow.

Lord, adjust our vision to look how you look.  Amen.

Still in One Peace,PS
