What to expect on Sunday...
A note from Pastor Steve
Many church websites I go to have this same tab about “What to expect when you arrive at this new church.” Most of them talk about wearing jeans or good coffee or some 80’s contemporary band.
At St. Paul’s, we’ve stayed a bit more classic. The worship style is traditional, but broken open, with more room for God’s presence and hope to be revealed and experienced.
Yes, you’ll see people wearing anything from jeans to suits. You’ll see babies and 95 year olds. You’ll see worship leaders in robes in a pulpit or talking in everyday language while sitting on a stool. Each week it might be a bit different. Broken open. But yet the same classic experiences of God every week: forgiveness, hope, lessons, peace and communion.
Recently, I was planning a one-time community worship service with some other (unnamed to protect their identity) pastors and one of them said this: “You know what would be really great…let’s plan this service so that people could really come together and experience God.”
That made me sad! Isn’t that what we are supposed to be doing every week? Every time we gather as people on the journey? Sunday should be about one thing: experiencing God!
So no matter how we break it open each week at St. Paul’s, what we tweak, or how it is dressed, we will be there to celebrate God’s presence with us.
What can you expect on Sunday? Expect to experience God.
